Wednesday Wank

It occured to me that today was Wednesday. These short weeks always throw me off kilter. Why is it, that after a heavy weekend of ’socializing’ like this past IML weekend; I want to find someone to settle down with and spend the next 21 and a half years with?

recovery

Taking a few days to recover from the fantastic events of IML. I burned out fast; but I had a blast. Thank you DC/LAX for the turn around the hotel.

Spine-less

It is a sad day when the hopes and dreams of the majority of Americans are squandered by the spine-less people voted into office. In November, the majority of Americans clearly spoke, via their vote, that we wanted change in the direction and leadership of our country. We spoke that we wanted an end to this ill-gotten, illegal and unwarranted aggression against another country. More than the 10 million people marching in the streets symbolized before the war started, this was supposed to be the very concept of America’s democracy in action. The people voted to change the corruption, to replace the “yes” men, and called upon our duly elected leaders to challenge the King President and force the withdrawal and put an end to this bloody quagmire.

Now, the spineless Democratic Party has decided that it is a “win” to back away from the wishes and demands of the people that voted them into office. They have drafted a bill to provide the King President exactly what he wants without any conditions, or string attached, and they are calling this a “win”

This is a sad day for Americans.

My view is this. You’ve been given a job. The voters have instructed you, to end this war, to bring our troops home, and at least 80% of Americans would love to see the King President impeached.

Draft the bills. Give them to the King President. Let him veto the bills. Send him another bill WITH benchmarks and withdrawal requirements and let him veto that bill. Keep sending them and let him keep vetoing them. Let him tell the world why he has continually chosen to not fund the troops. Make the bills clean of pork and clear in their goal. Fund the troops until they can be brought home.

The Houses of Congress hold the purse strings.

The King President doesn’t call the shots.

Get a fucking spine, the people will support you.

Sunday in the kitchen

I spent the better part of my Sunday on the couch watching television, cuddling with Stella and re-hydrating from my drunken exploits of Saturday night. Not horribly hung over, but badly enough to warrant a few hours ‘couch time’.

It was too cold outside to do much, so I decided to cook.

The last, unfortunately rushed, meal I enjoyed in New York with the Wells before being whisked off to JFK began with drinks at the bar of the restaurant at MOMA, also called, Moma, I believe. I had a nice relaxing glass of wine while waiting for the table and my friend Smarty to arrive to join us for lunch.

The first course of brunch consisted of an amazing mushroom soup with Chorizo dumplings that sat in my mind and flavored my taste buds the entire trip to the airport. It was so good; I couldn’t stop talking about it. Married Well, found a very similar recipe for it and forwarded it to me, along with the recipe for the dumplings.

I deviated from the recipe in the type and quantity of mushrooms, but the results were equally impressive nonetheless. Instead of the Chorizo dumplings, I matched it with something I tried with Tom while enjoying sushi and glasses of Puchi-Puchi at Tank.

They were made by combining mushrooms and cream cheese and rolling it into a small tight tube made out of Gyoza wrappers and then deep-fried. I think they would have been even better had I added the Chorizo as planned; but they were pretty damn tasty at any rate. So good, I rolled up another batch and re-heated the oil.

So here you are…

My attempts at gourmet food and presentation.

My dream vacation

I’ve never really dreamt of visiting Italy. It is on the list of places I’d like to get to before my swan dive into the ocean at aged 59 and a half. I stumbled upon this website earlier today and thought it was a wonderful idea. The Alfa Romeo of the late 1950’s and early 1960’s are my ultimate dream car. What a lovely idea for a vacation.
