just when I thought…

…that things couldn’t get more absurd, I stumbled upon a website selling specialized dog beds. They had the standard pillow styled beds in a variety of colors and fabrics, but on top of it they had this lovely, and extremly stylish Bauhaus styled dog couch. It was at this point that I became intrigued. Did my beloved Stella deserve to have such a stylish and high classed item for her sleeping comfort?

Or should I get her a doggie version of the bed that I always coveted as a child. A race car bed. Here, known as the Furrari(tm). Like I said… Just when I thought things couldn’t get more absurd… Leave it to someone to prove me wrong.

Solving the world’s problems… one at a time

I was sitting here, scarfing down my processed fast food lunch, filled with stuff and things and coated with other things that make it golden brown and delicious, washing it down with a 42oz beverage made of a variety of chemicals and sweetened with the world renowned “high fructose corn syrup” that is so prevalent in American food items.

I’m not sure if what I’m going to say is true, or even close to being true, but I believe that the American Corn growers (big agri-business, not small farmers [if they even exist anymore]) pulled a marketing coup a few decades back (right about the time that American’s waistlines started to expand exponentially) and convinced processed food manufacturers to swap out natural cane sugar for their new-fangled “high fructose corn syrup” product, allowing more profit for both the corn growers (again, big agri-business, not small farmer types) and the processed food manufactures. Cane sugar is expensive and labor intensive where “high-fructose corn syrup” is relatively easy to manufacture, cheaper (obviously) and easier to transport as well.

If you travel the world and read the ingredients of products offered overseas, you’ll notice that the bulk of foods manufactured for the European and Asian markets still use cane sugar and not “high-fructose corn syrup” which is so prevalent in American dietary products.

The corn growers, always looking to expand sales of corn-based products, next turned to bio-fuels and came up with Ethanol™, yet another product manufactured using corn and went and sold it to the world as an “alternative fuel”

But here’s the thing… Corn and corn-based bio-fuels will never be able to supply enough product to solve our needs. In addition, modern agri-business growing practices are depleting the nutrients of the soil and studies have shown that the soil will soon no longer be able to support the growth of corn, quite possibly producing another round of dust storms similar to the days of the great depression.

So, I suggest, we back off the use of corn for the “high-fructose corn syrup” and focus instead on using the corn for the bio-fuels (until we can find a better alternative).

In my humble, caffeine and processed food riddled mind, it’s a win-win for everyone. The American people get less health-harming “high-fructose corn syrup”, the bio-fuel crowd gets more renewable energy, and the corn growers still get to sell their crops.

The only thing I can’t solve right now is the depletion of the soil’s nutrients. I would suggest crop rotation, but there can’t be any money in that.

Hey! I can’t solve all of the world’s problems in one day. Just a few…

follow the money…

Why is it that I know more about how much money the various Presidential candidates have raised and/or spent than about the actual positions they have on various topics?

All you hear on the news, read in the paper, or on the internets is the amount of money these people are raising, who is ahead in the money game, blah, blah, blah.

I thought that politics was about issues and solutions.

I’d rather hear about that than the obscene amounts of money they’ve raised by getting into bed with corporations, wealthy citizens and their ilk. Buying elections seems to be sport these days and like most professional athletes, they’re all ready for that media close-up.

I’m a bit surprised that nobody else has noticed this trend and that it doesn’t set off a cavalcade of alarms and red flags. Nope. Seems to be BUSINESS as usual.

God love the United States of Corruption.

Summer Curry

Tonight, I concocted this. A red curry chicken/shrimp dish with coconut milk and edimame over brown basmati rice. Tasty and ever so spicy.

I have a lot going on in my humble existence these days and unfortunately, I’ve been sworn to secrecy. Some plans have come up and I’ve decided to fly out to California for a little break. The Republican has a special screening of The Simpsons movie on Friday, so I’m headed out to help her enjoy the movie. I’m going to try to rent a nice car and enjoy this trip sorta like that time I rented the Jaguar for a weekend. My sister, surprisingly has secured me some companions passes in first class, so I figured, I may as well make the entire weekend over-the-top.
